My New Favourite Recipes
This Margherita Pizza has a deliciously crispy crust, gooey mozzarella, fresh basil, and a savory tomato base. With just a few fresh ingredients, it’s easy to recreate this Italian favorite at home!
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded or sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Olive oil, for drizzling
Step By Step Method
Step 01.
In a small bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Step 02.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
Step 03.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 04.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
Step 05.
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
Step 06.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a 10-12 inch circle.
Step 07.
Place the dough onto a piece of parchment paper for easy handling.
Step 08.
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Step 09.
Sprinkle dried oregano, then add an even layer of mozzarella.
Step 10.
Add salt and pepper to taste, and drizzle with olive oil.
Step 11.
Carefully transfer the pizza (on the parchment paper) onto the hot baking sheet or stone in the oven.
Step 12.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Step 13.
Remove the pizza from the oven, top with fresh basil leaves, and let it cool for a minute.
Step 14.
Slice and enjoy your homemade Margherita Pizza!
